Scientific and Technological Achievements
The achievement of science & technology was gained continuously. In 2006, 2 state-level and 15 provincial-level science&technology achievement prizes were awarded respectively. A total of 10,719 patent applications were submitted and 5,742 patents were authorized, up by 13 percent and 41.0 percent over the previous year respectively.
Scientific and Research Talent
The number of scientific and technological workers has seen steady growth. By the end of 2006, the large and medium-sized industrial enterprises in the city employed 5.08 million technicians. The number of scientific and technological research institutes totaled 673. The city had 15 academicians with the Chinese Academy of Sciences and 10 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Scientific Research Input
The investment in Hangzhou¡¯s scientific research projects kept growing. In 2006, a total of 6.164 billion yuan had been pumped into R&D projects in the enterprises, up by 21.8 percent over the previous year.
Scientific and Technological Renovation
The city has speeded up construction of facilities for scientific and technological renovation. By the end of 2006, the number of the R & D centers at provincial-level or municipal-level enterprises (industries) accumulated 260, including 92 provincial-level R & D centers, 168 municipal-level R & D centers. There were 65 enterprises authorized as state-level high-tech enterprises, 895 provincial-level high-tech enterprises and 139 municipal-level high-tech enterprises. By importing famous universities or multinational company to Hangzhou, 14 increased units were established, accumulating to 64 units. A total of 12 service platforms for scientific and technological renovation were constructed importantly. The city had 30 enterprise incubation above 1000 square meters, covering a combined space of more than 665,000 square meters. There were 56 projects listed in Zhejiang key plans of scientific and technological renovation, including 41 industrial technical development projects and 15 new material projects. A total of 229 projects were listed in Hangzhou plans of scientific and technological renovation. There were technological contracts signed with the transaction value of 1.728 billion yuan and of which the transaction value of technology reached 1.343 billion yuan.
Higher Education
The key schools and key subjects continued to be impelled and the structure of high education was fastened to adjust. By the end of 2006, there were 36 general colleges and universities with 373,600 students, up by 6.2 percent over the previous year, including 23,600 graduate students. The gross enrollment rate of colleges and universities was 48.55 percent, increased 1.53 percentage points than the previous year.
Regular Education
The quality education was overall impelled,promoting the balanced development of primary education. By the end of 2006, the enrollment rate of the kindergartens for the children 3 years before school age reached 96.6 percent. the number of elementary schools totaled 605 in the city with 459,500 students, 263 junior middle schools with 235,500 students as well as 82 senior secondary schools with 124,200 students. The enrollment rate of elementary schools and the enrollment rate of junior middle schools all reached 100 percent as well as 96.61 percent of the students from junior middle schools were enrolled into senior secondary schools of various sorts, increased 1.6 percentage points compared with as the previous year. There were 8 civilian professional middle schools with 6,100 students.
Special Education
By the end of 2006 a total of, 13 special education schools with 1,278 students were owned by Hangzhou, basically popularizing the compulsory education of disable children in visual, aural, language, intelligent and limb ability. |
