In 2006, the annual transported cargo totaled 209 million tons and the volume of passenger transportation in the whole year reached 255 million person-trips, up by 5.1 percent and 5.9 percent over the previous year. By the end of the year, there were 177 flight routes built in the Xiaoshan International Airport including 31 international routes. The volume of passenger transportation handled by civil aviation amounted to 9.9195 million person-trips, up by 22.6 percent. New breakthrough was made in the construction of road network. With HangQian Expressway completely linked and HangHui Expressway opened to traffic, the “One Hour and a Half Transportation Circle” of the city was formed and the goal of “Expressway to Every County” was achieved. By the end of 2006, the total length of roads in Hangzhou reached 14,181 kilometers, including 2,300 kilometers high-grade highways. The length of increased roads totaled 194 kilometers and the rate of the roads through villages rose from 98.8 percent of the previous year to 99.4 percent. The motor vehicles of the city continued to increase drastically. The year-end amount of motor vehicles reached 1.2025 million and of which the private cars were 386,200, up by 11.5 percent and 27.1 percent respectively.
