Established in May 1992, Fuchunjiang Economic Development Zone of Zhejiang Province is a provincial-level development zone as well as the first development zone in ZhejiangProvince to be accredited by the ISO14000 Environment Management System. At the heart of the traffic rim of ZhejiangProvince, it has distinct geographic superiorities. Its main area is only 30 kilometers away from the center of HangzhouCity proper, 180 kilometers away from Shanghai, 160 kilometers away from Ningbo, and 50 kilometers away from Xiaoshan International Airport of Hangzhou, plus its convenient waterway straight to Ningbo and ShanghaiPorts via the QiantangRiver from its FuchunjiangRiver. Over the past dozen of years, it has introduced aggregate 273 projects, with total funds of RMB16 billion including a total investment of US$0.75 billion from 71 overseas-funded companies.

Upon the completion of the development and construction of its original site in 2000, the Zone has reclaimed an area of 13 square kilometers as its main area, the core of which is a 300-hectare new- and high-technological industrial park. Led by new and high technology and dominated by foreign-oriented economy, the Zone establishes the Optical Communication Technological Park, Bio-Medical Technological Park, and New Material Technological Park, focusing on the incubation of such new- and high-technological industries as optical communication, electronic information, bio-medicine, new material, and photomechanotronics. So far, it has introduced 32 projects, with total funds of RMB3.9 billion, including a total investment of US$142.51 million from 13 foreign-funded projects. Allowed for related preferential polices by the State, the Province and Hangzhou City, the Zone practices more preferential polices for new- and high-technological projects, foreign-invested projects and large projects in light of their technological contents, scale and grade, etc., and adopts aflexible policy so as to speed up its development. Carrying out closed management, the Zone has set up its ServiceCenter promotion each project.

As the enlarged area of the Zone, the 30-square-kilometer Changkou Industrial Park was newly developed in 2003 which is 10 kilometers away from central Fuyang City, and the Park has convenient and fast transport owing principally to Hangzhou-Qiandaohu Express Way and secondly to National Highway No. 320 and Hangzhou-Fuchunjiang Highway along the river. Under the investment guideline of being committed to the development of new- and high-technological industry centered upon overseas fund attraction and industry and export processing, the newly-developed Park focuses on the development of advanced manufacturing, productive services, tourism, and high-end riverside view-housing-based real estate development in the hope of developing into a multi-type industrial green base and emerging modern industrial city which is proud of top-ranking business environment and excellent habitat, and which allows all-around development of characterized industries including predominant new- and high-technology as well as optical communication, new materials, medical and chemical, paper-making, machinery, and so forth.
